Transitions

Transitions

One of the purposes I hope this blog will serve is to remind me, in years to come, what was going on in my life at certain times and the thoughts and feelings evoked by those circumstances. There is something I've been thinking about the last few days that I thought I would get down in words.

The last few weeks, Henry has experienced a great deal of transition. The new baby is one, but he's also changing schools. He has been attending the same daycare/preschool since before he was one. Due to some work-related changes we need to move him to another one that is closer to home. Lisa and I both worried that all this would be too much for him.

So far he is meeting the changes with amazing enthusiasm and resilience. The last couple of weeks he's been attending both the "old" school and the "new" school. This week he will attend his old school for the last time. He'll say good-bye to the first friends he has ever had - Nia, Bobby, Ben, others. He has been in school with some of these kids since he was a baby.

He's already made friends at the new school and he's excited about going each day. I'm thankful he is such an adaptable and confident child. Sometimes when I pick him up from school I watch for a few minutes. I usually tear up as I see him interact with friends. Such a big boy.

It is amazing how quickly babies become their own persons with personalities uniquely their own. It is such a privilege to be given the opportunity to help two boys become men.
