The asthma gene
Like any parent there are certain of my traits, biological and otherwise, that I would like to be passed on to my progeny and others I would rather die off with me. Asthma is one of those that I wish I could have kept to myself. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Henry was diagnosed with asthma when he was just a few months old. It is not a constant problem for him but about 3 or 4 times each year it gets pretty bad. There are more options for treatment now then there were when I was young. His nebulizer (see photo) helps a lot. Maybe our soon-to-be-born son will not get this particular gene from me and maybe by the time my boys have kids of their own asthma will be a thing of the past. As far as traits I would like for them to inherit - maybe the mastery of the five mother sauces.
